- • 10' long, unintelligent but highly magical — dwells in caverns and twisted brambles.
- • Petrifying touch: anyone touched must save vs petrify or be turned to stone.
- • Petrifying gaze: each melee round, anyone meeting its gaze must save vs petrify; avert eyes to avoid (-4 to hit, basilisk gains +2 to attack).
- • Mirrors: fighting via reflection incurs -1 to attack; 2-in-6 chance the basilisk sees itself and must save or self-petrify. Characters surprised by a basilisk automatically meet its gaze.
